Hi all,

I was in Bendigo on Christmas Day visiting family and noticed there were more than just a few Locust about. I have seen worse about 20 years ago but it did pose the question about those of you and your collections in areas threatened by this flying menace. Our cat is keeping them under control here, it is keeping him fit but how are you doing :?:

They are about ten to fifteen kilometres from me and in numbers, hopefully the wind coming off the sea keeps them away from here.

Here in Canberra there are no plagues of locust or other biblical disasters and we have only spotted 2 grass hoppers in the last month.

However there are more caterpillars this year. A spray of Dipel cures that problem but they keep dropping out of the big trees that surround the collection.

Our band of volunteers ensure that the trees are looked at carefully each day.

There are hundreds of tiny greeny locusts here right now here they will become adults in a couple weeks times. They already distroyed most of the tree leaves in my back yard. Except for pine and jupnipers, no other trees are spared including hard English Oak leaves.
