Juniper problem

Hi guys,

I'm having problems with my juniper looking worse for ware at the moment. A similar thing happened this time last year, where parts of the tree started to brown off and die. The die back is occuring mostly on top, but also on the branches towards the rear of the tree.

Last year I got some advice that this was probably mites, and treated it with Confidor every few days. I haven't seen a great improvement since. Does anyone else think its anything different, or do you also think its mites?

Cheers,
Damo

A couple of things come to mind. It could be pot bound or in need of a good feed. Might be a bit late to cut roots now but you can always pot it up in a larger container and feed right away.
Have you checked it for aphids?
Cheers

hi there damo,

i have the same problem at the moment with one of my juni's, what i have found is that it had to much water was always wet, no good dude, junipers do not like to stay wet, they like to get dry and then have a nice drink.
not sure if this is the case with yours, but is what happened to mine. i myself could not find any aphids or any insects, but please by all means make sure that you look for them to be sure.
cheers

Thanks for the advice guys. I did check for aphids Ash, no sign at all. I'm thinking that molty might be on the money. I have it potted in potting mix at the moment, and its this time of year that I tend to give it more water, possibly this is the reason for it happening same time this year as last. I recently bought some perlite so I might give this a go. Can anyone forsee any problems with potting into larger container with a perlite base?

Cheers,
Damo
