After arriving back into Aus on the last A380 yesterday I thought I would post some pics of my buys from my trip.

I went over to the states in October for one of Boon's Intensives http://www.bonsaiboon.com/pages/intensi ... ption.html and picked up a few things.

An old Reihou pot from Japan that I purchased off Boon, very nice patina.

The Fall intensive was even better than I had hoped, I have Boons DVDs but seeing the techniques in person was invaluable.

I am writing up a report on what I learnt so hopefully everyone can benefit.

Hi Scott,

I just had a look at Bonsai Boon's site, very cool. Like the others I look forward to your review.

Also I am looking to get the DVDs or see if my local library/club have em, but since you have the DVDs could you please let me know if they are worth purchasing?

Thanks

I definitely recommend the JBP DVDs, particularly the decandling and fall maintenance. You can have a look at the short previews on Boon's website.

Boon is also producing a few more DVDs on the development of raw stock, and Japanese maples etc.

I purchased another set for the CBS club library so anyone interested in Canberra will have access to them shortly.

BTW...Some things that Boon advises his students to do with JBP are somewhat controversial in the West but I think that the trees speak for themselves and show the benefits of the techniques suggested.

Beautiful patina on the Reihou pot Scott. Will you be planting something in these or are they just for display?

I'm looking forward to reading your report on your time with Boon. From my readings, he seems to be a very humble guy. Was this the case in person?

Regards,
Steven

Definitely a very humble man!

One of the best things that Boon said to us was that style (traditional/natural etc.) is not the issue, he just wants to see good Bonsai.

Its safe to say that a lot of the 'good' Bonsai in the US are in Boon's backyard!
