making of a broom Elm project

Project - Chinese Broom styling
Being a newbie, I have been doing a lot of reading on this website and last winter decided to convert 2 of my Chinese Elms that I didnt style too well in the 1st instance, as I let it grow wild and twiggy, into a broom style. So I did the v-cut method
Plant 1- not as good as I would have liked

plant 2- as you can see the results is much better here. This bege the question.. Now what.. I have read that I need to prune the side shoots while letting a leader develop.. is this right.. Any tips you have appreciated.

Hi Makro , If you don't mind me asking how high is the trunk- to the v cut,as i feel your trunk is too high,,, also may i point ou that u really want the new shoots to come from as close as possible to the tops of each side of the V,, not halfway down like the shoots on yours. I would of made the V alot deeper as yours is a little shallow and wont IMO heal and blend as new leaders, Im not sure of how to post my topic on here(maybe someone else can do that for me plse

Hi Craig,
I just saw your post and its amazing what you have done with your tree. I am going to take a look at my trees and see what can be done.
The 1st tree isnt the best like you mentioned.
The 2nd one has more shoots and hopefully there will be shoots at the top of each v

hi mate
craigs given some good advice and the thread on IBC he has linked is a good one, long but good
the celtis I have in training has a progression which will show you a similar treatment to what craig did with his elm.
