Heres my Eucalyptus pushing out some new growth Dug out on April 10th. It came from a thick stand of She Oaks. There were a few gums amongst them, most where dead straight. This little fella had a nice bulging base. The soil was sandy and dank, a wide creek bed.
Took antalls advice as regards to she oaks. Kept in the most sunniest spot, cut roots back hard, place in tray and constantly fed seasoll. The last couple of weeks have been using azalea miracle grow (following pup's advice on feeding natives).
Have trained a leader but that's about it at present.
Any advice regarding styling, ID or just advice..greatfuly appreciated.
Only new to Bonsai but getting a collection, mostly natives, alot I have no idea what they are! But that's the fun of it.

That's a great start, I really like the base. I can't give any advice though because I haven't had much luck with eucs.

I'm with Rowan, its a great start. I also know little about eucs, but have been getting very useful bits and pieces through this forum. Goos luck with it.

Hi boom64,

Nice material. May I suggest at this stage before the new growth hardens, if it were mine I would select the new leader and loose wire into the shape that compliments the trunk and then select the other branching and do the same. Remove all other branching. Over the next 6 weeks keep an eye on the wire as the new branches will thicken quickly. When selecting a branch with multiple leaders ,select one and remove the others. You will find new shoots appearing from time to time. Rub these off unless wanted.

NOTE: Be gentle with this new growth as its not strongly attached to the trunk this early.

What was the tap root like on it when you dug it up and did you cut it right off?
I've only ever dug up small seedlings and have been very gentle in regards to touching the tap root, what you have done has worked well with this one, will be interested as to how it grows in the future.

Hi Nora,I was pretty hard on the tap root,cut it of about 60mm below the base.It had about 4 roots radiating outwards. I sealed the cut with "Kendron" Grafting Mastic.

Peter's advice should be strongly considered as he really knows his Eucs.
