Hey all,

Just a quick call out for anyone who has had any experience with digging up Rosemary. It looks as though it would be fairly old, well suited for a windswept or literati style. It is approximately 40-50mm thick at the trunk.

Does anyone have any Do's or Don't with Rosemary. Plus how tolerant are they with root disturbance and pruning?

I dug a rosemary from my own garden 3 months ago it was growing vigorously, now it looks very sad and I am at a loss to say why. I hope it survives but my advice would be to take it slowly. If possible cut the roots 6 months prior to digging.

My understanding is that they don't move easily.

from what I have seen with rosemary is they can be somewhat finicky. and I dont think they like to be worked hard all at once, back budding can be difficult, from what I have seen...

I have attempted 3 rosemary transplants (yamadori) with no success yet ... they don't
like being moved

The only advice I can offer ( as that wasn mine in the thread), Try to disturb the roots as little as possible and get as much as you can

I had n=mine in the shade with seasol drinks, but still did not survive

It took 3 months to dry right out tho

Don't give up Ryan. I have dug a few and so far they are all alive and going strong. The one I dug in the link that Steven provided is still going and is currently in flower.
The real decision is - if the plant will be destroyed - then dig it. If it is likely to live where it is for ever, you could leave it.
