Hi all
We were away for a week recently on the south coast at Kiama.
A couple of amazing Morten Bay Figs in the main park, our nearly 4 yr old daughter (in photos) loved playing among these.

To get Buttress roots on a fig, grow the main tree in a very shallow but wide pot and let the forage roots grow over the side of the pot and then place pots of compost under these roots that get over the side of the pot. Minimum disturbance of the main bonsai pot but change the Compost post every year and trim roots in the the compost pots. It is these forage roots that are let go, they form the buttress roots but there must be appropriate sacrificial branches grown.

Hey barefoot
thanks for your thoughts, it's an interesting idea and one that I'll try too.
Is this a method that you have used yourself?
If it is, is there a chance of seeing some photos? sounds really interesting.

very interesting barefoot!
I will definately have to give that a crack! the idea i have been working on is to encourage airial roots from the trunk and then using a mould to form the shape.
will definately give this a go though!
