Its re-potting time again and i think its time this small chinese elm had a change of pot. I have found the below 4 possible options and was wondering which one you guys preferred?

I think the pot it is in is the right shape may be a colour change. As the tree has such beautiful movement, I believe that the round edges suit better, that is why as the alternative. I voted for the no 3.

4 votes for the original shape, Like pup said just a colour change would be cool, But you probably see this tree every day and want a change.
So i would pick the 2nd pot if you are going to change.

I don't mind the pot its in but i do feel it is a little drab and it could happly live in a more masculine pot for a few years. I also really like the strong look that the feet on some of the pots give. The problem is that i need a pot around 25cm wide which really limits my options as there are not a wide range of pots in this size.

I have added a couple of more feminine options and allowed you to select two options in the poll. Feel free to vote again if you can.

I accidentally voted for pot 1. That's what happens when you don't read the post . I think the original pot looks best.

Maybe the original pot but with the colour of pot 2 or similar.

I prefer the original pot. It has very soft lines and the tree just blends into it softly and looks very comfortable. The sides of the pot are narrow hence the tree doesn't look confined.
The rectangular pots are too heavy and really seem to be the focus...the tree is just sitting there on top. The edges of the rectangulars are too wide and the tree looks as though it's being confined. Also some of the pots look like those claw feet baths. No offence meant, it's just my opinion Jow.
Anyway I love your tree, I wish I had something as beautiful.

I like the original oval out of all the pots. Colour and all.
I am sure this tree can look great in a rectangular pot but I don't think any of the ones you have picked so far are just right.
The tree is fairly heavy set so outward flaring at the top is not usually ideal. Neither is ornamental feet. I would be looking for a pot with no more outward flare than the original oval. The most outside point of the pot could be the centre but I don't think the tree is heavy set enough for the most outside point to be lower than that such as in pot 3. (even with the flaring lip)
By these definitions Pot 6 should be about right but I Don't like it either. I think the wall is too thick and it is too deep, not keen on the colour and probably a little too ornate. I think the groove in the corner could be Ok with a more rustic pot and no banding.
Maybe a rounded rectangle would look very good as well.
I really like the way the colour of the original pot brings out the bark and contrasts with the autumn colour. It seems like it would also work well with green leaves.

Ripper of an elm by the way. Do you have any plans for increasing the taper mid section. I guess it will come in time with apex changes.

this is a very powerful yet graceful tree, which in turn requires a pot to suit, i think your idea of change is a good one, I beleive that pot 1 wors well, the right shape for the tree and a good colour goes excelent with the autumn foliage, my other choice is pot 3 which i beleve gives the tree the perfect balance, one it has the power of pot 1 but gives it a softness that the tree shows with its movement, the colour is right too, if it were my tree pot 3 would be the one

Great exercise in a difficult part of the art, well presented.

For my two cents, (and rapidly diminishing) the oval pot suits the tree shape better, but the feet on the square pots make the design look lighter - the oval pot sits heavy on the ground. The original colour is good, the rest are a bit strident for me.

Is there any chance it could sit a little lower in the pot? In it, not on it? Just a thought.

Doh, I'm the only one that voted pot 6!!!!!!

I like lips on pots for very heavy and masculine trees. Pot 6 was the only one that doesn't have that.

Just to alleviate some pain David, I also like this pot, not the colour it screams at you, and you see it first. So another colour and yes, but we have so many choices.
