Hi all,

Just a quick question when would be the best time to repot this old elm- i was thinking of doing it soon but unsure? I live in melbourne.
Also what would be a good soil mix for this tree?

Hi, It looks quite rootbound. Best time to repot is in spring or early autume. I did mine in winter with no problem Very hardy burgers!

G,day Brett I have just done all mine. The after care is what is important no exesses of water wind or sun. Keep them clear of frost.
you should have no problems.

i think i may leave it alittle longer when the weather gets a tad warmer?

any ideas for a good soil mix for elm or aren't they too fussy?

I use Akadama and Carnarvon river gravel and coco peat, but that is in Western Australia foot hills of Perth Hot and dry in summer cold and, I wish it was wet in winter.

It is usually a lot wetter than it is at the moment.

As you say they are not too fussed as long as it free draining.

Ch. Elm are very hardy plants (the hardiest that i know), so any 'normal' bonsai mix will do the trick. But if you would like to 'upgrade' your potting medium they will only benefit further.
And of course, take the advice further up the page about aftercare...
