Ecco Oil for scale

I was advised too late that White Oil is too strong [smothered tree], Pest Oil was better and the new ECCO OIL was all natural and the safest of the lot. So I ditched my White Oil, used up the Pest Oil and got some Ecco Oil.
When I got an infestation of brown scale on my 12 olives I sprayed the lot with Ecco Oil. And sprayed well. 11 Olives took the treatment with no problems, I touched the foliage on the 12th olive and about 40% of the leaves dropped off. Remember that adage on cleaner containers... test on a small obscure corner before using everywhere.... well I rather think that applies here as well.
Just don't assume that every tree will be happy with a particular treatment, natural or chemical. If you can, test first. The affected olive is holding all remaining leaves and looks healthy and I guess that's one way to partially defoliate an olive to let in more light and air.
