Hi all, this is a calendar on line from a local Bonsai club. Without adding too much stuff to it, do we have a consensus on agreement with it?

For starters I don;t agree 100% with it, however as a guide I guess it is OK. I think even during the colder dormant months, some food is still required.

What do you think?

SUMMER
DECEMBER: Water and feed regularly, trim foliage and watch for bugs.
JANUARY: Check and remove wires, water and feed regularly.
FEBRUARY: Keep watering but stop feeding, reduce trimming.
AUTUMN
MARCH: Growth at a standstill use only nitrogen-free fertiliser.
APRIL: Deciduous trees lose leaves, water if necessary.
MAY: Remove wiring carefully, check all plants for pests.
WINTER
JUNE: Water only if necessary, do not feed.
JULY: Dormant period for most trees and plants.
AUGUST: Prune hardy deciduous trees and repot most trees.
SPRING
SEPTEMBER: Wire deciduous trees and repot most trees.
OCTOBER: Prune most trees, finish repotting and watch for insects.
NOVEMBER: Start feeding, continue to light trim only, water regularly

It might be true for Melbourne's climate but I'd be hesitant to follow it in Brisbane.

Hi all,

I think this is a good idea to having a check list for each month, and novices especialy would benefit from it.Since we all come from different States we could all contribute. We put up a forum, and in this we'll post a calender for every State. Then all we have to do is go to own State and look at the calender for what and when to do it. Sounds good to me . What does Steven think :?: I'll run it by him. Cheers! ;)

To be seriously correct the care calendar would depend on species as well as location.

it is similar to what the nurserys calendar that you have shown. Only ours will be posted for each state.

I think this callender is way out. I am cutting down on fertilser as it heats up not starting. Why wait if they are growing they can use fertiliser?
Then fall fertilising is very important it gives the tree a full belly to go to sleep with. Just feeding in the middle of summer is wrong at least in my climate.
