hey simon, I had really good germination results for my 1st time trying. My way worked very well for me, But others might have some better suggestions? I soaked the seeds in warm water for 48 hours changing the water on the 24 hour mark.
I got a glad ziplock bag filled it with a 50/50 mix of moist spagnum moss and propagation sand, Placed in the fridge. Within 60 days i had plenty of seeds starting to germinate, So i placed them in a 10 inch pot i had laying around with good draining soil. I purchased a dome hot house ($5) from bunnings and covered the pot. I would say ive had at least a 90% success rate, Very chuffed for my 1st time. I can send you a picture to your mobile if you want.

cheers ben, hmmm maybe i will have to be a little more patient, i have sown some in my backyard plot but haven't had any results yet, probably because its winter.
if all else fails i have more seeds in peat moss sitting in the fridge ready to go for spring, i think the spring time will make them grow. cheers simo PS maybe put the pics up on this post. cheers

HI Simo
I have sowed both Trident and Japanese and they both require cold stratifiacation for at least 4-6 weeks on the fridge.
I put them in a sealed plastic bag with some damp peat moss.

sow them into a seedling tray with a mix of 50/50 potting samd ans peat moss. Put them in the Sun and keep damp till they shoot. Can be up to 4 - 6 weeks after sowing before they shoot. They have been known to not shoot the fist year, but do the next so after you pot up the seedlings, leave the tray out so the rest get a chance

Ps i will be putting mine in the fridage this weekend

Ken

Thanks for the tips. Have been collecting Riverina Trident seed and seedlings on our 'Bonsai on the River Murray' odyssey today. I figure that if the seed comes from a tree in this harsh environment, then it's babies may have a fighting chance in Adelaide. Fingers crossed!!!
