i did cut the needles thinking there maybe some disease happening prob not a good idea on my behalf other than that some lite wiring last couple of months.
have fed with slow release fert from november to may with seasol powerfeed green bottle in between.as far as i no we have no possums problems pretty dense suburb here mate.do u think i should lift from pot and look for maybe curl grub or anything else going on in that area.my first pine so hoping to save but a bit weary of what to do thanks for any help u can advise as well as anyone else of course.watering never been prob last few years just seems to have gone backwards all of a sudden.

the tips that are brown now are from cutting the needles mick, as for that brown patch i am thinking the tree could have possibly thrown that branch, the layers which feed that branch may have died back. would be a good idea to check the roots if it isnt going to disturb them to much. the other thing is the needles look a bit dull for JBP, giving the tree a feed of sulphate of ammonia will help get them back up to scratch. you wont need much, half a teaspoon in a few litres of water should be plenty.

Maybe overwatered and underfed. energy balancing needs addressing too. Why aren't you with the illawarra club. some guys there that really know their pine stuff!!!

Its hard to say as a number of things it could be. If your watering and feeding has been normal, you are still getting a minumin of 4-5 hours of sunlight a day for pines i would suspect a bug and mites would be on the top of my list. Get some white paper put it under the affected branch and give the branch a tap if little dots appear and start moving around that is what you have. Little buggers and can be hard to kill . I think lifting and checking the roots as a secondary measure should be ok this time of year for grubs. I agree with Ant about energy balancing but the top half dosent look too heavy to draw alot away make sure your rotating the tree if you have it close to a wall or something so sun reaches it.

I would also guess at a watering problem, pines need to be kept very dry especially at this time of year. If your pine is not getting too much sun then it would not be drying out.
