Callistimon - Recalcitrant devil!

I picked up ''The Boot' from a nursery that collected it from the wild. I fell in love with the trunk and had all sorts of plans for this plant. This is one tree that puts paid to the adage that the foliage reflects the root growth. Within a month of repotting this tree has a pot full of vibrantly healthy roots but the foliage barely grows. A year ago I removed 'the toe' which was dying anyway but the pot continues to fill with roots and the foliage continues to just survive. There are only two living veins going up each side of the tree which could account for part of it but I like it too much to move it on yet cannot bring it on enough to be able to bench. And while the pot may not be ideal for this tree, one thing it has taught me over several pots is that it likes 'em DEEP. It definitely does better in a deeper pot than a tray. And I like the colour/finish of this Mirkwood pot with 'The Boot' and it likes the depth.
