I did a few serious bending for smaller stock but this is the first attempt with a bigger trunk. This young jup is bought from the Red Dragon bonsai for $89. It has a 4cm at base 3.5cm trunk just above the first bend and tapers nicely. I was thinking of growing it a bit more but failed to resist the temptation to work on it

I manage to find a local craft shop that sells raffia for $2.90 per 50g roll and also used this for the first time. It appears to help a lot as the 6mm wire is hard to bend and could have damaged the bark of the plant. My home made trunk bender was also well used this time.

WoW! Great stock and that's some impressive bending work.... Looks like your homemade job did the trick... I must invest the time in making my own. Would love to put some movement in the radiata I just bought...

Thanks Mitchell. I'm interested in works with radiatas too so please also post pics and progress.

Your've certainly put some work into that one. What I see is a trunk which moves strongly in one direction then branches which go the opposite way. It would look much better if the whole flow of the tree moved in one direction both trunk and branches. With wind swept style trees you should try to create a look where the wind has blown in one direction since the trees germination everything flows the same way, any branches which go against that flow should be short and compact and sit hard against the trunk

Thanks Craig, the big branches going the different direction may have to become jins as they look wierd in the other direction.

That look heaps better but even some of the branches you have left should be moved to flow with the trunk.

Just another attempt at bending. I guess I could push it a little more but it's going winter and I don't want to kill it so I will try again in spring.
