Hi all,
This is a little dutch box I've started playing with and I'd appreciate any advise on it. I've just potted it up and I'm ramifying it to complete the canopy.

Regards,

Keith.

Hi KCB, I think you made a good start. I can see this being a nice broom style in another 5 years or so. Keep us posted with the progress.

G'day KCB, Are you sure it is a dutch box? It looks more like a Japanese box by the photo. But i have been known to be wrong. You have done the right thing if you are planning a Broom style but it is a good time to make a decision on what style you really want. If you stick with the style now it might end up looking a bit like Topiary. If you make it into an informal upright you will need to shorten those bottom branches for movement and wire up a leader for further movement in the upper half of the tree. Buxus are a little underrated as Bonsai but there are many good examples out there. Have fun with it.

Thanks for your input guys.

I bought it as a dutch box. I also bought a japanese box at the same that has more rounded leaves. I'll grab a pic of it tonight for comparison.

Bodhidharma I know what you mean the trunk is a little on the small side. I when this way as I think the first branches are a little high for the trunkupup size to go with an informal upright.

I could wire up a leader and force it ot back bud down the trunk. What do you think?

regards,

Keith

Yes, it would be a good time to add some movement to the tree. More appealing to the eye. They are slow growers so potting it up would benefit it and still keep it small via pruning.

I'll give it a shot and see where it comes out. I know they're known for being slow growers this will give me plenty of time to plan and adjust the styling.

Thanks again,

Keith.
