New soil mix

Today I made a new soil mix (my second)

I used 40% diatamite 3-5mm, 30% cocopeat, and 30% commercial native soil mix.

My first mix I used orchhid mix instead of native soil mix.

This should give me a good start when we get to potting season

Hi Gerard,

Did you sieve the ingredients? I tried to half-arse the procedure when I first made my own mixes and promptly discovered the importance of making sure they're properly sieved. They went hard within no time.

But my first wasn't much different to the one your talking of here. I've ditched the coco-peat now though and I just use 50% maidenwell (2-5 I think) with 50% general potting mix. I found that the diatomite retained enough moisture to do without the coco-peat. But I'm in a fairly sheltered area, away from wind and, unfortunately, full (all day) sun, so my soils stay fairly moist regardless.

Cheers,
T
