Hi guys,

I have recently re sparked my interest in growing bonsai once again and purchased this elm( yet to pay for it and pick up)but i would like to get a bit more growth on the canopy as i feel it lacks a little bit.
My question is i am in central queensland and would like to know the best conditions for my lil tree, when hould it have sun and for how long watering intervals and what sort of fertilizer ? so i can get the growth going to fill in the canopy.

Cheers
Owen

gday mate :D welcome to the forum firstly :D

as for your tree it is an outside tree. being on the coast in QLD (good stuff, i am too ;) ) it will be fine outside. i think if you want some good strong growth you will need to put it in a grow box or the ground. if not atleast a bigger pot. you need to let it grow freely and feed and water well.
ferts there a many out there and most of which are very similar. right now i am using powerfeed which is made by the same company as seasol, which will be good for you to get aswell. only fertilise after you have watered :D

with watering allow the soil to be just moist before watering again, it is as simple as sticking a chopstick or similar into the soil and if it comes out wet then its fine, just moist you could water again or dry definately water :D

i think that one might need a repot anyways. especially if the soil and roots are really compact in the pot.

jamie :D

Hi Owen,

Welcome to the forum! Image

I've bought a few trees from that seller (I recognise the beer bottle and display setting ;) )and I've been very satisfied with the trees and packaging. Hope it keeps your interest in bonsai going.

Cheers,
Ron
