Hi all,
We were talking about mycorrhiza a short while ago (can't remember the post exactly) and when I noticed the presence of that fungus net on the rootball of my Ponderosa pine, I thought it might be useful to take a photo of it for the people here who haven't seen it before. Note that the quantity of mycorrhioza here is not all that copious; the other day a friend sent me a pic of the rootball of one of his pines and it looked as if t had been dipped in flour! On my tree you can see two types of the fungus, one white and one pale yellow. From what I gathered, the yellow has something to do with the phosphor content of the soil.
I am surprised my Ponderosa made all that mycorrhiza, as this pine spent the whole Summer, with very high temps, in full sun and the pot must sometimes have been very hot.
For some useful info on mycorrhiza, see http://www.anbg.gov.au/fungi/mycorrhiza.html
It's an Autralian website and gives interesting info on the presence of that root fungus in our native plants.

P.S. - You learn a lot while preparing the background data for a post, here! I sure did for this one.
