I have this Melaleuca rhaphiophylla, that I have finally remembered to do some progression pics of. It is one that has been in the for sale column, so I thought to do some work on it. Also wire some on it as the crown needs to be worked on. to get some definition. Well here we go.

A remarkable improvement Pup - you have done a drastic change of angle on the small trunk (lower branch) and thinned out quite a lot. Interesting to see the progression over the next few months.

I have trouble matching this pot with this tree. The pot needs to be freeform, refined rough, not Japanese drum. Mind you, the pot is not unsuitable but I don't think it really enhances the tree's qualities sufficiently. It is too 'fine' for our trees. Now that's not quite true... I find that olives, junipers, pines; other rugged trees look better, more natural in a 'refined rough' pot... maybe a textured finish, maybe slightly warped in shape. But I am finding the strict, controlled format of Oriental pots doesn't really suit our trees well enough.

The pot is a training pot. Also the tree is for sale , so the new owner can get the pot they want. I find it difficult to rationalise the choice of pots preferred some times. Though we do not have that feel it is still necessary to match the tree with the right pot. When they are in training it is immaterial though.

This tree was styled on Dec 30Th 2008. Here are some progression pictures these were taken on the 27Th Feb 2009.
As you can see in two months there is quite some improvement. I might even take it of the for sale bench!
