I've tried many search words but can't find a post from the last week or two where a green slimy jelly-like stuff was growing around the base of a tree. I think the poster thought it might have been a type of moss.

Anyway, the advice was to spray it with vinegar. What I can't remember was it white or brown vinegar and diluted or not.

I have the same stuff around the base of a potted crepe myrtle I bought yesterday (so still can't take pics because of the dark and wet weather here and the slimy stuff is under the foliage - not sure I could get a pic anyway).

Can anyone remember what thread it was in please?

Any vinegar brown or white not diluted will do, it will also kill moss Liverwort and some weeds.

Hi Ron,
I would be inclined to apply the vinegar with a small brush like a pastry brush rather than spray it so you can be more accurate with your application. I hope your dark weather means rain. We are just getting some here very relieved.

It's just taken me nearly two hours to get from Penrith (normally around 45"). We've had torrential rain up here today with three landslides on various parts of the railway line and a derailment at Woodford. The highway is closed at Bullaburra and Wentworth Falls. All these unlucky workers walking along the highway in the rain after being taken off the trains which are banked up along the line.

Guess what wasthe first thing I did when I got home? Yep, checked my trees and they're OK.

That sounds like extreme rain our version is thankfully a little more gentle. Glad your trees are fine.

After Pup suggested using vinegar on a tooth brush to get rid of green stuff on the trunk of my Seiju we adjusted that to spray it on because of the coarse fragile bark of the seiju.
It worked well. 2 light applications did the job.
