Just received an email from the local firies:
"At 2:13pm this afternoon the Bureau of Meteorology issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for various locations, including the Blue Mountains.

One large storm cell is currently over the Warragamba Catchment, moving toward Warragamba and Camden. Another cell is currently 16km west of Katoomba and moving directly east. A third cell is over Lithgow and is also heading east toward Kurrajong.

The text of the warning follows:

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce large hailstones and damaging winds
over the next several hours in the CENTRAL TABLELANDS district. Locations which
may be affected include Orange, Mudgee, Bathurst and Katoomba."
and then I see this:

My first hailstorm since becoming a Bonsai fan makes me nervous. :o

Exactly! I stood out with an umbrella over mine! Luckily I choose I good spot for my new trees - against an east-facing wall under the house eaves so they were protected from the curtain of hail. Most if not all our storms come from the west.

Gone now and the sun's just come out for the first time today (it's been overcast all day). Hello humidity.

Did we have wild rain and hailstorm yesterday! Driving speed in a 90k zone was down to 30k for safety, and the roads and the Gt West. H'way were littered with torn vegetation. In Woodford I saw great swathes of hailstones which looked to be at least 12" thick and this was an hour or two after the storm passed.

And my worst nightmare came true: I was 45" away in Penrith, but luckily no damage to trees or property.

Hi Ron,
I was watching the storm clouds over the mountains as I drove home from work, thinking I bet there is hail in that, and there is nothing I can do to protect my bonsai, but I was lucky only some small hail and heavy rain where I live in the lower mountains, saved again.
Cheers, Jonden

I think it's time to start building an ark. I can't remember the last time we had a sunny day nor rain as heavy this over such a long time.
