Hi all, these are two broom style english elms i have, the one on the left was in Canberra last year for twelve months (and very well looked after by Grant and his crew)the one on the right is rapidly catching up.
If you can get hold of a copy of Bonsai Australis, volume one, issue three 1993 page 32 there are a few pics of these trees when first started by Max Lehey.

wicked work john! and definately twins, have you named them? you gotta name them, they look like sisters so girls names need to be used i think!

i would love to see a shot of them in winter silhouette, the ramification must be great!

excellent! very inspiring for those who are trying to accomplish broom styles. maybe a little run down on how you got them to this stage would be good to? if possible?

i am currently working with a celtis stump that i would like to make a broom style, so advice would be greatly appreciated and maybe pics of the various stages if you have them?

i can see you used the V cut technique to get these started as a typical elm works with that sort of cut, do you think this sort of thing would work on celtis?

i have had one new shoot come up from one of the chops but am worried it wont work with the species?

Was the elm in the blue pot at the BSV display at the Box Hill town hall last spring? I'm sure the one on display was in a blue pot also - it was damn impressive.
