I was wondering if anyone has attempted a ghost gum bonsai before? Either C. dallachiana or C. aparrerinja.

I absolutely love the white trunk on these trees and every time I see them in the wild I wonder if anyone has done one, however I can't seem to find anyone that has. I don't know if I'd be game to attempt it otherwise.

i think fly bro would be the man to talk to bout that, he might have one or two, i know he does a lot of eucs. same as steven, i am sure they will pop up soon and help to rhiannon

I too would love to see the Ghost Gum in Bonsai form, but I certainly don't know of any. My concern with Eucs mostly lies with species that can handle Melbourne's relatively mild conditions, and I don't know that I've even seen C. dallachiana or C. aparrerinja in my nursery dalliances. Kuranga Native Nursery in Mt Evelyn would be the place to look, I reckon.

[EDIT] The Wallangara White Gum (E. scoparia) displays a similarly smooth, white trunk at certain times of year. Mr Steven, Mr PeterH and myself are currently having goodly amounts of success with this species in potted culture. [/EDIT]

Yeah, I can't seem to find anyone who's done a ghost gum. I'm so inexperienced I'm more than likely to completely screw it up.

I would have thought C. dallachiana at least would be okay around my area as we used to have heaps here before they ripped them all out and put housing estates over what used to be beautiful country. But I obviously don't know enough about bonsai to know how it changes things.

My mum has heaps around her (soon to be home) property in Jeparit that I could source, but it's 5 hours away and I doubt she'd be able to get me anything (my family is hopeless at horticulture in general). She's going up this weekend, so I've asked her to keep an eye out around the nurseries. I might have to experiment and just see what happens. If it fails, at least I'll learn what not to do!

I'll have to see about getting my hands on a Wallangarra White Gum and having a play. I like the snow gum, too, but that's often fairly mottled in colour.

One of my favourite things about the ghost gum is how it gets that kinda of wrinkly look in its bark where it twists and bends. If that made any sense at all, do you know if any of the other species get that look?
