7th National Exhibition of Australian Plants as Bonsai
7th National Exhibition of Australian Plants as Bonsai :: 13th to 14th March 2010
You are invited to enter display trees or photo’s for the above exhibition hosted by Canberra Bonsai Society (CBS) and Australian National Botanic Gardens (ANBG), to be held at the ANBG in Canberra – 13 and 14 March 2010. The exhibition will include two bonsai demonstrations – one on Saturday and one on Sunday. More details will be provided shortly.
To transport trees to the exhibition, participants could consider car pooling for company and to share costs. Perhaps have one team drop off trees one day and another pick them up the next day. As well as enjoying the exhibition, it would be an opportunity to visit the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection of Australia, catch up with friends or take in other attractions around Canberra at that time of year.
For those who are unable to provide a tree due to their location and the logistics of getting a tree to and from the exhibition, there will again be a photo section. Photo’s of Australian native trees should be provided by email (address below) in a JPEG (JPG) format of approximately 700K – 1.2Mb.
A catalogue of trees will be produced for the exhibition that includes common name, botanical name and age along with a short story about each tree. The most popular tree and photo of a tree will be awarded on the basis of a visitor ballot.
Contact the Secretary CBS at secretary@cbs.org.au by the end of February 2010 for more information or details of how to register an entry for the exhibition.
I look forwards to catching up with many of you there!
Regards,
Steven

Also on that weekend there will be an open day on Sunday 14th at the Arboretum where the NBPCA will be moving in a few years time.
It is called Festival of the Forests. See the Arboretum in its early stage before the trees get big and the bonsai are bigger than the trees.
I will post info as it comes to me.

Re: 7th National Exhibition of Australian Plants as Bonsai
Gday folks!
I've checked my calendar, and I reckon I might be able to make it up to the ACT in March... It will most probably be only a day trip, meaning that it will be on the Saturday (March 13).
I look forward to seeing the trees on display, as well as meeting a number of AusBonsai members in person.
I'm sorry that I have nothing to offer the Exhibition this year - either in actual or pictorial form... Maybe next year.
Thanks!
Fly.

Re: 7th National Exhibition of Australian Plants as Bonsai
G'day native fans,
I have entered one of my bonsai into the National Exhibition of Australian Plants as Bonsai and have a leave pass from home to be in Canberra for the weekend
. I'll be driving up on Friday with my tree as well as one of MelaQuins and Ray Nesci's also. I'll be returning on Sunday with the bonsai. I will have room for a few more trees if anyone is interested in displaying their art but can't make it to the exhibition. First in, first served.
If you are interested, let me know via posting in this thread or sending me a PM.
You will also need to email Mike W at secretary@cbs.org.au to register your interest and will need to provide the following details;
• Scientific name
• Common name
• Number of years in training
• 50 - 100 words about the tree (how or when you came by it, its life story, any stying challenges you faced, a point of interest about it etc.)
• Indicate whether it is OK for us to take pictures of your tree(s) for use in publicity about bonsai - and may we deposit a copy with the ANBG image library, which means that it may be displayed on the web? In either situation, intellectual property right issues will be protected and we don’t identify owners on the ANBG web site, although the ANBG keeps information on each tree so if there is a request to use the photo in a commercial context, then the owner will be contacted.
I'd really like to encourage you all to support this exhibition as it is an excellent promotion of our art and native flora.
Regards,
Steven

Well said Mr Steven!Steven wrote:I'd really like to encourage you all to support this exhibition as it is an excellent promotion of our art and native flora.
Unfortunately, the best way I can currently support this exhibition is to buy a return ticket to the ACT and pay for admission to the display. I would have loved to have had some photos on display, but real life gets in the way of my Bonsai pursuits.
See you there on the Saturday!
Bri.

Hi everyone,
here is the link to the arboretum website for information about the open day on 14th March. The arboretum is where the NBPCA will be moving to in about two years so you can come and see our future home as well as our current home.
You can also visit the Australian Plants as Bonsai show at the Australian National Botanical Gardens and The National Bonsai and Pennjing Collection of Australia in Commonwealth Park as well. There are already lots of people from interstate saying they are coming so it should be a big weekend.
See you there,
Grant

Looks like there are many people meeting at the APAB show on the Saturday. It should be a rollicking weekend.
BonsaiRic is coming down as well from Sydney. He's going to see the Masterpieces from Paris while he is in town as well.
So much to do.

On Sat. 13 March, from 11.45 am, a table has been reserved for us at the cafe-restaurant in the Botanic Gardens, 2 steps away from the show. Any AusBonsai forum guests are welcome to join and get to know fellow forum members as well as the organisers of the show.
There will also be a dinner at the Turkish Pide House in the Jamison Centre, at 7.00 pm., to give everyone interested in native Australian bonsai a chance to discuss present and future developments. Places are limited. Please PM me if you would like to attend this dinner.
Looking forward to seeing you.... whoever you may be,
Lisa

Re: 7th National Exhibition of Australian Plants as Bonsai
Hi all,
Have you ever wanted to see the word Bonsai/Penjing on a large street sign on the busiest street in a capital city?
Well last Friday we had five of the large brown "tourist signs" erected on and near Commonwealth Avenue, just before the Commonwealth Bridge on the way to the Parliament House in Canberra! It took 3 people and a cherry picker to adjust one of the existing signs so that we could fit onto the main sign.
We did it specially for all the important visitors coming down to visit the 7th National Exhibition of Australian Plants as Bonsai , so that they could then find there way to the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection of Australia. Oh, and the occasional tourist, head of state, diplomat etc. You know how it is.
Anyhow things are getting to a fever pitch down here in preparation.
Come and enjoy all that is going on that weekend.

Hi all,
A black tie event was held this morning, including the Canberra Sympathy Orchestra, in honor of the forthcoming APAB show and to celebrate the erection of the new street signs on Commonwealth Avenue. Everyone was there.
