hey people, as you might have seen i got a couple of figs of shannons dad, i worked them over today but thought this was very much worth showing what can be done with something from a stock style tree. i think this one deserves a thread of its own as i am quite pleased with how it is turning out, it will still need some more refinement but overall happy :D

it is quite small, shohin size, it will be a max height of maybe 180mm if its lucky.

i sorta wasnt quite sure on where i was going with this on till i had started working on it, after reading leongs book last night i at least knew i had to start somewhere and that was defoliation to see where to go.
Fig def.jpg

with the removal of the leaves and some of the crossing trunks and branches wiring out of the tree began, i wired it completly before even thinking about placement, this is how it turned out, i think it will be as good a view point from every angle in not to long :D so i wont call any of the pics front, back, etc.
there is a top veiw to see the structure and placement.

well, let me know what ya all think, i know there is a bit of refinement to be done still but for an initial styling, i am happy :D

Hey Jamie
I'm liking the look of it, well done it's getting on nicely ;) Like you say still needs refinement so it should look good later on in it's life. :D

i actually bare rooted this one mate, its sitting a little lower than what it should be for now as i cut off some crossing roots, and all that, but it has a good spread which adds about another 15mm bit more maybe to the trunk and then the nebari spreads out well. i made nicks and cuts in it and have put loads of hormone gel on it so it will be full of new roots very soon :D

will be able to lift it up in the pot soonish, but sorry, no pics of the bare root.

cheers bro :D
cool bout the pics mate :D

i reckon it wont take to long to get this one up to scratch, i reckon bout 12 months and it will be near ready, its a fig in queensland, it grows all year round. my temps never really drop below twenty even at night on a cold night, and the humidity is always high so airial roots wont be a prob either :D
cant wait to see it come into leaf though :D

That virt will be very achievable man! It's got the structure there now, just needs some time to develop ramification and some leaf reduction.
Should look great in a year or two!
