The finer leaves, reasonable size trunk and "bush" habit looked promising to me.
The label says,
Features: Small and bushy bottlebrush variety. Great for small gardens, hedging and landscaping. Evergreen shrub with aromatic leaves when crushed. Hardy once established.
Conditions: Full sun to part shade. Will tolerate a wide range of conditions including coastal conditions and clay to sandy soils.
Fertilise: Use a slow-release fertiliser formulated for natives.
Planting Ideas: Garden beds and borders.
Just the one mention here, GavinG on October 31, 2019,
"Callistemon linearis. The leaves are theoretically too big for the size of the tree (leaves up to 5cms, tree only 35cms high) but they are so thin and airy that it works for me. They can have nasty lignotubers - pick your seedlings carefully."
It has had a light prune and I will not be investigating below the soil too far (just a glimpse of the lower trunk) till it puts on some new growth.
