Fig cutting

I grew this from a cutting or possibly tube stock :lost: . It is finally in its first pot. I'm happy with its bones.

I know this has probably been answered many times before but as I'm not a fig person can anyone tell me how many times a season do you defoliate a fig?

I won't do anything with this little fella until winter when I will put on some wire.

Defoliate as required. There's no minimum or maximum but it probably depends on growing conditions.
The real question is why you want to defoliate?
Every time you take leaves you use up some of the tree's strength. Defoliating many times can severely weaken the tree. If it is already unhealthy, even defoliating once could have serious repercussions.
I generally do mine once a year if I think it might do any good but often don't defoliate at all, preferring to manage using other methods.
