2024 Canberra Bonsai Society Annual Show
12-13 October 2024
9am-4pm Saturday, 9am-4pm Sunday
Canberra High School Bindubi Street, Macquarie

The annual bonsai show of the Canberra Bonsai Society is on the weekend of the 12 and 13 October 2024 at Canberra High School, Bindubi Street, Macquarie. Club president, Tony Gill said that the show was the start of a busy 12 months for the Canberra Bonsai Society as its celebrates its 50th anniversary, culminating in the hosting of the 2025 National Bonsai convention in Canberra from the 16-19th May.

This year’s display will again feature high-quality bonsai from the collections of CBS members, including some created by local artists represented in the National Bonsai and Penjing plant Collection, Australia housed at the National Arboretum. It will include both traditional exotic and native species.
.
This year we are expecting that there will be many highly refined trees on display and some traditional Japanese tokonoma-style displays. Demonstration sessions will be held daily at 11 am and 2 pm, covering aspects of designing and maintaining bonsai.
Plant sales this year will include starter plants, advanced stock trees and styled bonsai. The CBS plant sale is an excellent opportunity to buy bonsai and stock plants of a quality not often available in Canberra. Several traders from outside Canberra will offer plants, pots and associated bonsai equipment as well. Australian-made and imported Japanese and Chinese bonsai pots, tools & wire, and books will also be available.
Visitors will be able to vote for their favourite bonsai. Access is via the Eastern entrance to the Canteen/Hall. Parking is available in the main carpark. Follow the signs when you arrive.

Adults $7.00
Concession $5.00

Not sure about 'deliberately' Alan. I cropped some of the shots to get rid of distracting bits before posting. What I did not do was check after I posted. Those cropped photos are still normal on my computer so Ausbonsai seems to be doing the distorting. Most of those tree shots have been squashed vertically for some reason. My apologies for the distorted pics.
Maybe someone else has some that are more accurate.

Hi Shibui,
I find that if you crop on your phone by dragging the corner then reposition the subject in the frame works best, then save to your pc. Or post on the site strait from your phone. Cant speak for the illogical iphone but its really easy on a Samsung. The site will post what you post as far as I know.

Thanks for the tips Alan. I'm using one of those illogical phones which may explain the problems?
Apologies again for the completely distorted images.

Still hoping someone can supply accurate photos for those who are further away and could not make it to the show.

I tried again to post a good photo of that giant Banksia, but the result was bad: not only was the tree compressed, but it was also turned 90 degrees to the left. :shake:
Bad luck, shibui!
Sorry I didn't get to say hello, yesterday. I arrived with only 20 mins to spare before closing time, and there was so much to see! BTW, one of the trees posted above is mine - glad it was good enough to catch your eye. Thanks. I hope you had a good weekend. Best wishes,

Lisa
