I’ve just had a bit of a browse through prior ‘persoonia’ post hoping someone had had some success with cultivating these as bonsai; but it seems there’s been no such luck.

I mainly bring this up as the bark on some if the wild, native and local examples i see is amazing, in many cases having a thick almost ‘plated’ appearance, albeit it much softer than that of something like a black pine. Beneath the outer bark is a vibrant red inner section of bark and although the species local to me (P. Levis?) don’t have bonsai-friendly foliage, it looks like there are species with something that’d potentially ‘fit’ better.

Geebungs do have great bark. I have lots of P.stradbrokensis at my place. In my experience they don't like big cuts or being dug up. They produce lots of seed so they might be one for the native bonsai from seed comp?
