Hello,

I collected various examples of Crataegus from mid to late winter this year on or close to my property.

They are all doing well so far and are pushing out new growth at varying rates of enthusiasm. I thought I'd show progress from when they were dug to now. I'd like to show ongoing progress as they settle in and I start to work on them, which will be in a year or two when they have fully recovered from collection.

top stuff mate. looks like you got a couple keepers in that lot. It's hard to find a hawthorn with some movement but i see some of the ones you dug have some. Did you scout to see if they flowered white or pink?

Thanks, I'm keeping them all until further notice! I do not know about the flowers, unfortunately. I first started eyeing them up for digging in early winter after most of the foliage had dropped.

You will find once it flowers they will all be white. The pink are the cultivate nursery ones.

Most of the feral hawthorns have white flowers but there are definitely some with various shades of pink flowers in my area. Mostly lighter shades but definitely not all white.

Agree that Luke has chosen well. So many hawthorns and plums have very straight trunks with little taper so you need to look long and hard to find better trunks.

That’s interesting Neal, I have never seen wild pink Hawthorns. Thought all that was ever used for early fencing/hedging was the white. Will have to keep a look out for the pink.
