Hi Steve.
Timing depends on lots of factors - species, your location, age of the plant and possibly how desperate you are to repot.
You'll need to be a bit more specific about what you want to repot.
In general Brisbane probably has a much wider window for repotting because it does not get cold there. Some species can be repotted all year round up there.

Hi Steve,
I'm also very new and I've learned that the best time for deciduous trees is as the buds are swelling/breaking. Where I am in Melbourne this could be late winter to mid-spring - I've learned some trees are hardier than others and can tolerate it earlier.
Natives I will leave until the weather is warmer, but I've heard even in Melbourne there's a good chance we can repot them year-round. However, if you have trees in refinement or maintenance you really only need to repot them once they become very pot-bound, maybe only after 2, 3 or even 6 years. Peter Chan on Youtube has great, easy to follow videos on repotting.
