Heya,
After doing a big prune on my port jackson fig ive got about 6 cuttings which have all rooted. About 7 weeks old. How long should i grow them before i make a big fusion experiment? Should they be pot bound or is a little roots enough to get started. Im in sydney and its autumn.

I would let the roots develop a bit more before pulling them out to work with them. I'd wait until spring.

Ficus are so tough and fuse so easily you can probably start whenever you like but I'd be just a little cautious first time and let the cuttings grow a bit before putting them together. New roots on cuttings tend to be very fragile so it would be easy to break some while tying your trees together.
Warmer weather is much better for ficus so I also agree with the wait till spring (even late spring down here) as the trees are likely to grow better and recover faster after a warm weather transplant.

Probably also depends what you are trying with the fusion. Larger trees will still fuse reasonably quickly but you may have better control over the final shape if you fuse larger trunks.
