Hey,
Recentlly I found what I think is a Chinese celtis on our property, and I know its small but I think its similar to a tree in a blog I read https://adamaskwhy.com/2012/07/16/celti ... -probably/ and if so could be similar in a few years. I live in Brisbane and we've been getting colder nights for a while now, so when should I wait to collect a deciduous? If it is a celtis is this the time of year to collect? If you know what it is otherwise, please let me know when it can be collected.

Hi Conrad definitely a celtis although it doesn't have much going for it. You could collect it now, I got two last week. But to be honest I would look for something that has a bigger trunk and that is higher so you have something to work with. They are plentiful here in Brisbane, especially along creeks. But I understand that you are young and just starting out so it can be good for the experience. Dig it up and put it in a nice free draining mix.

Never know, it might have some good size and shape under the ground, I'd dig it and scrape the soil back to see what you've got there. Celtis are pretty hard to kill, so it's good to learn with. Digging now, or in the next month or so would be perfect, as long as you can keep it in a nice sunny spot out of the wind it should do well.
