I picked up this beech Fagus Sylvatica (according to tag) from a garden store/nursery and was super happy about its stateliness even in this raw form. The leaves are creeping out and now I'm guessing it's a Fagus sylvatica purpurea? I've hardly seen a beech in my life (they mostly grow in the southmost part of Sweden) but I'm guessing the leaves should be a bit greener if it wasn't a copper/blood variety..

Do you guys think I can start this kind of pruning work next year, if it grows well and survives the winter?

looks like a great find for a nursery stock tree. Congrats

Before sap starts flowing I did a hard winter prune on my beech. Hopefully I didn't take it too far I'll keep you posted..
