A few years after collecting from the backyard this jakaranda has produced its first flowers. Only five flowers this year, perhaps there will be more in the years to come? It needed some wire in spring, but I didn't want to knock off the flower buds. I'll sort out the branches after the flowers fall.

Well done, I have never seen a bonsai Jacaranda flower

Thank you for sharing! I've been told that it's possible for Jacaranda to flower in a small pot, and I've seen photos, but this photo shows a lot more flowers than any other I've ever seen! Congratulations Symon!

Thanks Symon! I did not think it was possible (or very unlikely) for Jacaranda to flower as bonsai. I have new hope for mine!

Mel - yes if course you can.

MJL & kirky - I have never seen one with any sort of ramification flower before either.

I found a scientific paper showing that the apical buds need a few months of under 16 C nights to develop into flower buds. I simply stopped bud pruning after about mid summer to let the flower buds develop over autumn and winter.

The tree is really too small for the flower and leaf size, and branch diameter. I think something at about 1m tall would look good.

Thanks Symon, it'll be of interest to quite a few people I know, as well as your suggestion about leaving it through some cold nights.

I'll give mine another try at flowering next year.
