The council planted 20 near me. I found 2 fruits growing - how is this possible?

Although sold as ornamental they do produce a little fruit. Very dark red difficult to see sometimes due to the leaves being the same colour. The fruit is the same colour in as it is out and delicious.

Yep I have three of these in my back yard, specifically sold as "non-fruiting", and all three set fruit - not a huge amount, but it is tasty! Unfortunately the birds, possums and bats get to most of them before I have a chance.

Not sure how viable the seed is? I have never seen any self seeded around the trees. Could be because rats, birds or possums get them first or the seed is sterile. Let us know how you go.
