I have the opportunity to dig this Indian hawthorn (Rhaphiolepis indica) here in Perth. After a google search they don’t seem super popular as bonsai. The tees here all started growing about 5 weeks ago. I’m starting to doubt if it’s gona be worth the effort:

Does anyone have experience with these?

I think just about anything is worth collecting, however I don't don't the botanical name of this plant so that is my only proviso.

Botanical name is rhaphiolepis, I think the leaf and flower is probably going to suit a bigger size tree anyway but give it a crack and see what happens. You might need to cut it back first, let it recover in the ground for a year, then dig it the second or third year given how big the plant is. Minimise the stresses

Raphiolepis Indica if I'm not mistaken. I've tried them a couple of times, but haven't had much luck with reducing the leaf size. Planted out in the garden they do much better than in pots, even larger training pots. Good luck with yours.
Cheers, Frank.
