Hello!

Recently acquired this Seiju Elm and was hoping someone might be able to tell me what the bumps are on the branches? Harmful? Normal?

Cheers,
Rory

All normal Rory. They are lots of tiny leaf buds if you look up Yatsubusa / translated yatsubusa roughly means many buds on each leaf bud bump. Roughly my Japanese is not great
If your still worried send it to me, I’ll look after it for you
Cheers
Kirky

p.s. great find :tu:

Yatsubusa literally translates as 8 buds, Yatsu being the generic counter for 8 of something. Really though you are right, just used for very densely budding cultivars

It is COMPLETELY NORMAL and I kind of like it, gives them an interesting character. 😊
