I have a large freeform pot/tray which I intend to use in the next day or two for a pinus mugho clump. This pot has two drainage holes but none for securing wires. To use the drainage holes is not a good option as ground clearance is poor (I feel the pot would rock on the wire).
I am considering anchoring wires with an epoxy cement. Does anybody have any experience with cements, what pitfalls to avoid and what works well? I also intend to use lots of muck around the edges.

Everyone in articles on the subject lines seem to use the stuff without any issues...

Is it not possible to drill additonal holes in the bottom of the pot with a fine drill bit without the pot floor cracking??

A couple of options I know off. Drill holes and use furniture tab thingies to fix wire I will have to watch a video to get the correct names. Glue the wire to the pot where you want it with Vise glue from Bunnings.

Whats vise glue. I have used kneed it to anchor wire to rocks.

aryldite would be an option to glue wires to the pots aswell one would think, (that might be what vice glue is, a two part glue, one a resin the other a hardener). otherwise i would yous a 3mm cement drill bit not using the hammer option on the drill, i repeat NOT using it. and drill hoes where needed where they wont affect how tho pot sits.

The thing is with this stuff is it works extra well on porous items like pots. As Peter Stated moisten a little works better

solid brass screw in the base of the tree, round the back ??? or i would drill the pot with a masonry drill, need to keep dipping it in cold water to cool down as ya drilling.

I use glue tack for feet. It cant be seen and the pot wont rock ,also if the pot is sitin so flat how does the water drain out.

Gerhard, you can use ribbon straw it is used to tie parcels and gifts. I use it along with a mattress repair needle. The needles can be bought from sewing machine shops.
They are about 20cm long I have shown this method on here as I use different coloured ribbon for different seasons.

It will hold large trees because you can put two or even three ties on the tree also the needle will go though the root ball so you do not move the tree.
It can be done after you have finished potting up.

If you want I can put some pictures up tomorrow so you can see what I mean.

for epoxies try and use a putty based oned like knead it. if you ever want to fasten wires to rock you can use the traditional method of using lead pellets (small sinkers work) a punch and a hammer.

In today's day and age use a "Hot Melt" glue gun for for and sprinkle some mixture over the resin when hot . It conceals and blends the anchor point to the surrounds . Try to leave a small raised area to allow for the gripping of the blob with a pair of pliers for easier removal .Cheers
