Hi,
Mystery plant.JPG
I have no idea what this one is but with smooth, interesting bark, elliptical, opposing small leaves and a bit of movement in the trunk I thought this one was work a try. (OK, yes, I was weak because it was at throw out price)

I've cut it back hard and cut up the rest of the tree as cuttings (placed in a humid atmosphere to try to maximise striking) - nothing ventured nothing gained :fc:

Does anyone have any ideas on this one? :lost:

Jaboticaba or 'Plinia cauliflora'

They are a slow growing fruit tree with a very nice trunk - It grows an edible grape like fruit on the trunk, tough skin with mostly seed, but quite edible. I have one which is being developed into a bonsai (stick in a pot at the moment), i have found it is very slow growing in a pot, like 75mm growth in 1 year. I also have one in the ground which is got to 1.5m after 3 years.

Good luck with the cuttings

Thanks for the ID. Folk at the hardwear shop had no idea, me neither.

I'll look out for it producing fruit to confirm the ID.

Thanks, again,

Jan

Jaboticaba I have 1 that I grew from a seed from my inlaws tree.
You won't get fruit anytime soon I have heard they can take a long time to produce, and they grow on the trunks and large branches
