[attachment=1]9C0979A0-1C67-4CAA-856D-DD4654551360.jpegHi,
New to bonsai but have an interest in natives. I found this Podocarpus lawrencei running’s wild in the corner at my local nursery and for the price I thought it may be something I could either bonsai or butcher, that’s yet to be decided......

No real idea of the best way to shape this tree but interested if anyone has an opinion or thinks it has some prospects.

Thanks,

JC

Hi JC,
I don't know anything about the podocarpus L, but the outstanding and glaringly obvious area needing attention is at the 15 cm mark where at least 6 branches are coming from the same junction. If it back-buds well you should be able to develop the tree nicely, it has plenty of options to choose from.
I've just had a quick look at Mr. Google and there is some info out there. It appears to be a slow growing tree, so don't be in a hurry to chop and change until you've done some research. :reading: Apparently they are suitable for bonsai. Good luck with it.
Cheers, Frank.
