Hi guys, I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but I will post the message anyway. I have had this before on other trees either on the base of a trunk or on the moss as you can see here. I say with complete certainty that it is from over feeding but if you have another theory please feel free to share.
Thanks
John

i reckon that is from water sitting there too long, if you scrape the moss from the roots i think that stuff will go away.

Keep in mind in Sydney it is not easy to have nice moss all the time. The moss wants more water than the tree does. The heat scorches moss. Good idea is to have a moss farm in a semi shady place and just before a show add to pot. If you try to keep a tree nicely mossed year round you might as well slit your throat now.
