The leaves have started dropping off the deciduous trees. I've been taking advantage of the bare branches and doing my regular autumn/winter pruning. Not all the trees are losing leaves together so this task has been spread out over a couple of weeks. Still a few more to go but getting there a few at a time.

I wonder if any of my deciduous trees will lose their leaves in the near future? Most don't even start til July-ish... Sometimes it's nice to live in a climate with proper seasons.

My young maple has dropped it's leaves now too. I'll have to look at doing the same thing, great inspiration to follow on from. Definitely some nice trees there[OK HAND SIGN]

My maples are still in full leaf and have a japanese maple forest with new shoots

I have not used Lime sulphur on these trees.
When I was exhibiting trees at Melbourne shows in the past there was often comments about how light the maple trunks were compared to Melbourne trees. The ground water I was using at that stage turned out to be quite acid so maybe that explains the bleached trunks then. Now we have moved the ground water has tested close to neutral so that should not be bleaching the trunks. I have sprayed trees with vinegar as necessary to reduce moss growing up the trunks and on branches. That may have some effect?

The last of the tridents have dropped leaves This is my thickest trident trunk. Not sure whether that has any bearing on it holding leaves for longer but it has now had a pre winter trim. A bit younger than many of my other tridents. You can probably tell that I picked this one more for the trunk size than anything else. Roots are quite chunky and not particularly even in size or spread. Some were quite large when it was first root pruned so there are some with blunt ends instead of nice ramification.
I'm actually quite happy with the developing branch structure - random dips and rises as well as lateral movement but the actual branch placement is not as I'd really like.
Over the past 10 years I've grafted in a number of new roots to fill some of the spaces between the larger roots. The one at my index finger and immediately to the right are both grafted using approach graft technique though the tell tale scars have almost disappeared now.
Still a couple of scars from trunk chops and more recent branch removal still to heal up but the trunk chop scars are well on the way now.

Would love to know more on the first tree the Japanese maple. How did you develop it, It looks like a wonderful tree.
