As an example

I thought I might give an example of how we can keep the discussion down in the entry threads.
Go to the contest area click new topic and start a thread.
This is my Clerondendron that I styled for in the aged section. I am very proud of it. Although we are trying to stop everyone posting in the contest threads no one seems to want to comment on how my entry exhibits an understated elegance, austerity,a beauty of line and sophistication.
I am very sorry that I had to change and delete everyone's threads I did not want to moderate this section but I was cornered.
Can everyone tell me how nice it is?

Not a winner yet. While the tree has nice movement lower down when you get to the crown there is conflict.
Two branches coming off at the same point ( in the picture ). If it was to loose some of the top left branch, at what appears as a shoots. Then a slight up ward movement
I think it would talking to me.
Cheers Pup

Before I read the comments I studied the pic and I agree with the two gurus... something has to go at the top. Because the literati contest runs for a year and this tree thickens and improves weekly, if you insist on literati for the contest I would then be restyilng for a beaut informal upright once the contest is over. A pity to lose a year with this plant but it will soon recoup the pruning you will have to do. I just can't see that a Clerendendron would be more effective as a literati than an informal upright. Course... you're out of the competition if you style it as an informal now. Can't you find something else and make this a beautiful spreading informal upright???

Thanks guys I am feeling much more loved now
Yep the top has some refining to do as I stated in the contest thread to Pup's comment about the top. It kinda looks like an alien with antennas in the small pic at the moment. The right apex branch is actually a back branch split in two. Very fresh shoots with too thick a wire so I could only manipulate so far. I might remove this back branch but the old adage easier to remove than put back on
You won't talk me into informal upright for this one Mela. I am loving it as literati
It is great to see another one though. Thanks for the pics

Hi Stymie,
Brett is a solid unit and you can be sure that he punches above his own weight.
Having said that he is also one of the nicest people you will find.
Brett - I think it is a nice pot
Regards
Steve
edit ps - until this post I would count Brett as a good friend

Yeah well ya sucked up enough you should be OK. He took a lot more from me when we first became acquainted.
But it ain't going to do him any good here. Impartiality is the name of the game
Cheers
