Hi everyone,
I’m looking to purchase a fruiting bonsai as a gift. Does anyone know where I might be able to find one to buy in Australia? I’m based in Sydney. Particularly interested in apricot, plum, pomegranate, citrus or even mulberry.

Try Ray Nescis at Dural, and have you considered a crab apple ? At least the fruit is small and doesn't look oversized on a bonsai.

Thanks! I’ll contact him. Can you eat crab apple? I was thinking apricot or mulberry are small would they be ok? I see what your saying, the heavier fruit could bend or snap the branches.

You can cook crabapples into a jam. But they’re tart and odd with lots of pectin uncooked so not very tasty until they’re jam. Also you need many crabapples to make jam and you won’t get enough from a bonsai.

Mulberries grow quickly from seed and the leaves reduce very well so they are a good start. They are also very forgiving in regards to over zealous root pruning, poor watering so again a good starting point.

Plum is a good choice (because I really like plum as bonsai) and you can eat the fruit.

Agree Plums are a great choice, if only I could get one before the birds, rats, possums

Have you thought of a Cumquat, pretty when in fruit and should be able to pick up one at any citrus nursery.

Ray would have some Chinese Quinces too. They make a great bonsai.
