I do not know why the horse racing fraternity call it "The Oaks" but they keep telling us that it is oaks day.
It sounds like a good theme to me, so why not show them?

Couldn't see my querus robur for the mildew... moved it on.

I haven't had much luck with Oaks they tend to grow VERY slow for my liking. This is a fun seedling that I am mucking around with though. It usually goes through a couple of pots a year getting knocked over. Haven't broken any pots this season but It was knocked out of it's pot already this season.
Looking a bit tatty, it even has some of the leaf curl issue if you look closely.
Any way since it is Oaks day

I am in the same boat Brett, not much to show as far as oaks go. My bit of fun is this one which I purchased 3 months ago for $5. Shape was poor so I chopped it, I hope to make a mini but I am not too sure if I will be able to achieve much reduction in leaf size

Big pots in Full sun, Lots of water and no more than usual Fert, Plenty of time. The big Q Robur has been in a Big pot all its life ( collected acorn in '1988)
The Palustris I collected from a local park before the buldozers arrived. It was trying to grow still in its plastic sack thing on top of a mound of dirt for a few years, and when they were about to doze it all I Saved it form oblivion. Trunk chopped and started to style.
Needs another repot and I am now starting to look at Branch structure now

Have two. but they are this years seedlings, still another 20 years to wait.

Hey Ken how about O-O-O-OAKLAHOMA for your inspirational music? Exactly the sort of thing I do for my plants all the time. I just bought a madder at herb day, and keep humming 'Well it really doesn't madder anymore' in the shadehouse.

This is my oak that I obtain a few months ago. It went under some chopping and now in leaves. Here is the thread: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2193

the problem I have with it is leave size reduction. I thought it would be but it's not. some are reduced quite small but majority are huge. The pics below show the big leaves. I don't want to hi-jack the thread so I will post in my old thread for help with this issue.

The camera doesn't lie lol. This oak was dug from the wild years ago and put into the ground here and it is now in a training pot for the first time. But the inverted trunk stands out like the proverbial. It can be fixed with nibbling some tissue but it just goes to show what we miss on our travels.
