Im looking at collecting some English Oak acorns around Brisbane area. Ive seen there is one at the botanical gardens but unsure on their collection policy. Does anyone know of more trees or if the bot gardens are fine with picking up acorns at the end of summer.

I can't see there being a problem picking up an acorn or two. Is this in the City botanical gardens or toowong?

Also times may vary as brisbane is warmer climate.

I see you found the thread. I found this other thread too, I couldn’t remember when I got mine until I found it. I got them in February, there were some on the ground and some fresh green ones on the tree. I got a combination of both. Take many, because then you put them in a bowl of water for 24hrs and only plant the ones that sink. I got about 20 and only 5 didn’t float. Then some will sprout faster than others.

Acorns are mature when they start to drop off the tree. Down here it is around March I think? but you'll need to keep checking for your local acorn ripening time. Even after most have dropped you should be able to find a few on the ground nearby unless the tree is in a lawn area and the staff are doing a good job tidying up.
There is a general prohibition on taking anything from Botanic Gardens to control losses of rarer material. I don't think the gardens will be concerned about you taking a few acorns but you could ask for permission or co-operation from the staff to save some embarrassment.
Acorns do not germinate well after they have dried out so don't try to store them. Plant soon after picking them for best results. I generally nip the ends out of the first root soon after it begins to emerge to promote lateral roots suitable for bonsai but you can also just let them do their own thing.

Here in Melbourne I time my seed collection around Anzac Day easy to remember. Acorns, Chestnuts, Walnuts etc...
