Last year I was fortunate enough to obtain a pot by Pat Kennedy that was red (maroon) in colour and the challenge was to find a suitable tree for the pot.
I have been growing a plum (everyone should have a plum, or three) in what I call the Morten Albek style (if you don't know him, look him up - interesting guy) for a while and it was time to give it better accommodation. This plum has red/maroon coloured leaves and I am hoping that the pair match. It is about 12cm tall with a trunk of about 4cm wide, but is yet to flower properly. I am uncertain if the two lower skinny branches will continue to feature but that decision can be made later on. I dug this tree probably 4 or 5 years ago (could even be longer) so it does take time to get the look, but it is developing in the right general direction.
I have read that red pots are the new fashion, so I hope Pat approves of the tree/pot combination.

Thanks for posting Watto. I am with Bodhi's comments. I reckon it looks good and it will be interesting to see the colour combo when the leaves appear.

Nice pot Watto,did not know the Master Potter made red pots.

I like it a lot Watto and for what it's worth I think the lower branches are needed for balance.
I'm looking forward to seeing it with foliage.

Bodhidharma - slightly outside the box was the idea so I hope it works.
MJL - Morton has published a book called Shohin Bonsai which is currently out of print but worth a look if you can find a copy. A BOOK, yea I know that's out fashioned.
I don't think Paul noticed there is a tree in that pot, maybe Pat is right and he needs to wear specks ha ha ha.
Now that the potter himself has given this combination the thumbs up I am happy. I will certainly post another photo or two during the coming season.

A book! No. Quaint! I’ll search it out and thanks for the reference. As it happens.... I’m of the vintage that still prefers the feel of paper. I just put a book down to check out my phone .... sign of the times. Anyway... on things more topical, your shohin posts - have got me inspired and thinking .... I have a little native. Hmmm ... ‘a project for today?’... musing as I sip a coffee....

I'm with PK but I i have a tad of bias where his pots are concerned - red on red I believe will be a little different and I await the pics to see if it will be as stunning as my mind is imagining - see you at our shows

Sorry Watto,did not want to be rude,but I was blown away by the pot,not that I am likely to get one,that I did not take much notice of the tree,but yeah it is nice too and will look stunning when the tree is in flower, also tell your Mate,that I have made an appointment to specsavers so should see them next time if ever he makes any more pots as I have heard he is retired.

Paul - old potters never retire, they just loose their mud.
Anyway, here is the tree with a few leaves, no flowers this year but I hold out hope for the future.

That combination of pot and tree works really well.
As a newbie I don't worry too much about how good the wiring looks. I personally have a theory that it is better to wire slightly loosely rather than tight. I believe this gives the tree a little room to thicken the branch without the wire cutting in. Cheers, Frank.
