Melaleuca rhaphiophylla Tanuki

This little tree has suffered quite a lot in its life. As you can see it is hollow. When it was collected 5 years ago it had a lot of potential. It was flourishing, then for some unknown reason it just started dieing off.
As the description for this species is tree and or scrub, I did not touch it other than to put it in a nursery pot. In Akadama and then left it . When we got back from our holidays at the end of June I noticed this little sucker on the side. So I treated it like all other cuttings.
This is the result I have potted it up and now wait for more development. This question has been posed before.
Is this a Tanuki ( phoenix graft ) wrap around. remember it is its own root system. Although the stump might rot completely one day.
